Stratifications I, 2019

Layer after layer of textile is glued together after they build a material that resembles armour, but dissolves while wearing or already shows damage.

Textiles are emblematic for the trend-driven affluent society. As these wearables are falling apart, they are telling a story about passed trends, exposing patterns and materialities in their layers that have long been out of fashion. The objects communicate an obsolescence, transparently. They do not hide their own fragility, which in some sense makes them honest objects. From the heavy mass of overproduction, objects have been created, which in this work are confronted with the human body.
Presenting these pieces as individual parts of armour, they arise the question, what has become of clothing in affluent society, when it originally was a means to protect humans from weather conditions.

Some pieces of this work are part of the collection of the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. See the works on eMuseum.ch. They were part of the show Atelier Zanolli (6th of May - 4th of Sept 2022)
